New Selfie Trends That Are Carried Over

The boom of social media platforms like Facebook, Twitter, Snapchat and Instagram along with the rising use of mobile internet has given rise to a unique phenomenon known as a selfie. A selfie is a picture of yourself, taken by yourself for the social media. Selfie has become a huge trend these days. According to a latest survey, about 40% of photographs posted on Instagram by its users are selfies, alone or with friends.
Selfies is for everyone, though the younger generation seems to be captivated by the idea of selfies. Mainly the teens but the disease has spread to the people in their 20s as well. And it isn’t confined just to the west, it has captivated the whole world. Asia and Europe alike, have selfie lovers who take selfies in their signature poses to show it to the world through these social media platforms.
There are a lot of selfie types. Some are an extreme close ups which show only the person’s pretty/ugly face on the image. Others show a part of the arm stretched out taking the selfie. Some include not one but several people trying to snug into the selfie. Another popular selfie trend is the mirror selfie. It means that the person is standing in front of a bathroom mirror so that you get a full body shot off the mirror’s reflection.
The phenomenon of selfies is so profound that it has made some out of the box thinkers, invent a selfie stick. It is a long stick with a handle on one side and a smartphone holder on the other. The aim is to capture more people on a selfie or capture more of the background. Many adventurists (don’t try it at home, it’s dangerous) use it to capture a selfie on a mountain summit or on top of a tower. A selfie has also captured the imagination of phone manufacturers. Many well-known manufacturers such as HTC and Samsung coming up with “selfie friendly”, meaning a very good quality front camera with higher megapixels and wider lens. If you guys follow tech, you will recall that these front cameras were put on smartphones for video conferencing. This selfie phenomenon has totally changed the use of front mobile cameras. That is the extent of this revolution.
This is not a trend which remains for a few years and then disappears altogether (eg…bellbottoms). Selfies are here to stay. With the social media giving it the well needed boost on their websites, people are more encouraged to take selfie. They are offering various filters and frames which can be used to edit your selfie before posting them on the internet. It also has the support from famous personalities, Ellen DeGeneres’s Oscan selfie became the most retweeted post on Twitter. These show the extent of selfie revolution. It is for sure that selfies will continue to sparkle our eyes in the years to come, and our selfies will come closer and closer to our heart.
