Every year, Apple fans gather online to speculate the
details of upcoming releases, most prominently the latest iPhone.
Although it’s only been a few months since the release of
the iPhone 6 and 6 Plus, information is amassing about the upgrades and
features of the rumoured iPhone 6s and 7 models.
It’s been predicted that the iPhone 6s and iPhone 7 will
both hit stores in 2015. The 6s will likely be released alongside the
much-discussed Apple Watch in the first half of the year, with the iPhone 7
following in the Fall launch.
But what’s different about these upcoming devices? Here’s
what we know…
The new A9 Chipset
While the Samsung-built A8 chipset in the iPhone 6s was
great, Apple and Samsung are teaming up to bring even more improved power and
functionality to the next-generation A9, which will be included in the iPhone 7.
Samsung have been reliable so far in providing quality
components to Apple, so fans can be assured the new device will run with the
quality they’re used to.
Updates to Touch ID
Ming-Chi Kuo of KGI Securities has predicted a higher number
of shipments of Touch ID modules, reaching a total of 262 million. This updated
module will offer a better, safer experience for users of Apple Pay, reducing
reading errors in the process for smooth, stress-free transactions.
Improved Stability in iOS 9
Apple
iOS has always been known for its stability, however
iOS 7 and 8 included a number of new, innovative features that resulted in a
higher rate of patching requirements to fix compatibility issues.
iOS 9 (which has been codenamed Monarch by Apple), will
offer subtle improvements to improve stability, fix bugs and boost performance,
with Apple placing as much importance on this as they are on new features.
RAM Upgrades
The iPhone 7 will be the first iPhone to include 2GB or
memory, just like Apple have done with the iPad Air 2. Increased RAM will allow
smoother multi-tasking and quicker speeds throughout the device.
Similarly, Apple also plan on doubling the RAM on tablets,
meaning iPads may ship with 4GB of ram.
Styling
Although unique in their own ways and the fact they’re
visibly different devices, all generations of iPhone have a similar ‘look’
about them. We’ve all come to recognise Apple products instantly, and it’s
unlikely the iPhone 6s and 7 models will be any exception. However, they may be
thicker in width, according to Mac World, who have revealed Apple have patented
‘sidewall displays’ – displays which extend on to the sides of the phone.
It’s probable Apple will stick with their ‘big is better’
approach and offer large sizes reminiscent of the current 6 and 6 Plus.
Camera Overhaul
John Gruber of ‘Daring Fireball’ has claimed to have heard
insider knowledge suggesting the next iPhones will include a dual-lens
camera
setup, resulting in quality that could rival a DSLR.
While still simply a rumour, it’s very likely this could be
true. The HTC One M8 already features a dual-lens camera, not to mention the
fact the iPhone 7 has probably been in development for some time, giving Apple
the time to perfect such a system.
